Take a look inside an abandoned farmhouse left ‘frozen in time’
There’s something otherworldly about homes that haven’t been lived in for years.
We don’t know what it is – it’s as though the previous residents’ spirits still linger, in the form of abandoned possessions and half-done crosswords.
Kyle ‘Urbex’ is fascinated by this strange phenomenon, and has explored more than 400 abandoned buildings since taking up urban exploring in 2020.
One recent expedition was to a farmhouse in Little Hereford, Herefordshire.
It’s clear that this property was once loved by whoever lived there – but for years it’s been left to rot.
Kyle’s photos show the inside of a home ‘frozen in time’ with the previous owner’s possessions still in place, as if they upped and left in the middle of the night.
There’s an old piano stacked with sheet music, candlesticks resting on the fireplace, and a calendar on the wall open to January 1998.
In the kitchen, newspapers and magazines are scattered across the table, while saucepans are still in place on the hob.
Kyle, 25, said: ‘When I got there I could tell immediately it was subject to natural decay.
‘I had to stay mainly downstairs because parts had fallen in upstairs.
‘The first living room I came to, I could sense it was from the 1960s or 1970s because of the retro wallpaper and old-style burner for a fireplace.
‘In the kitchen, there was an old cooker and milk cartons all over the floor containing a black substance, which I thought might be tractor oil.’
Kyle said he attempted to find the names of the former occupants but letters only seemed to be addressed to ‘the homeowner’ – so he has no idea who lived there.
He believes that since the home’s abandonment, it has hosted parties from intruders, pointing to empty beer bottles as evidence.
‘In these houses you feel quite sad in a way, it is abandoned and frozen in time,’ Kyle said.
‘We don’t know when it was vacated or who lived there but someone’s memories are still there.
‘The living room had a piano that once would have been played daily – it’s now left rotting away.
‘For some reason, whatever that is, someone upped and left, and never came back.’
