Two thirds of drivers fear they’ve been ripped off when selling their cars
TWO thirds of Brits fear they’ve been ‘ripped off’ when selling their motor – just because they didn’t know enough about cars, a poll has found.
While a whopping 54 per cent who have sold their car in the last five years think they received less than it was worth.
On average, cars went for £977 second hand.
But 85 per cent of everyone polled said their priority was simply to get rid of their vehicle as quickly as possible.
And this apparent lack of time may explain why a third of those who’ve sold their car in the past five years didn’t even shop around to get the best sale price for their motor.
It also emerged that 12 per cent didn’t even consult valuation guides to find out what their vehicle was actually worth.
The study also found a spooked 76 per cent were daunted at just the thought of what selling their car entails.
It means that seven in 10 consumers actively avoided selling their car through fear it may be a hassle.
On top of this, 69 per cent of Brits will go as far as to accept less than the market value for their vehicle in order to make the process that bit easier.
But this has proven to be a point of major regret for many.
Because 62 per cent also admitted they regret rushing to sell cars in the past – because they received less cash for them as a result.
Though not all were down about their selling skills, as 14 per cent boasted they were “very confident” they got a good price for their car.
The poll of 2,000 adults by OnePoll was commissioned Motorway.
A spokesperson for the online-only used car marketplace said: “Selling your vehicle can be a headache for many, particularly if you don’t feel confident in your knowledge of cars.
“But there is an easy and simple way to sell your car online for a good price.”
