Harley Quinn Is About to Help Launch a Brand-New DC Team
Harley Quinn is joining a new DC team — one that appears to include Black Manta, Deathstroke, Poison Ivy and Gorilla Grodd — in Shadow War Zone #1.
Harley Quinn is joining a new team for Lucius Fox’s son in DC’s upcoming Shadow War Zone #1.
Shadow War Zone #1 is a new one-shot featuring several different stories related to DC’s “Shadow War” crossover event that the publisher is putting out in May. One of the stories, “Ninjas! At the Arcade,” will see Harley headline a new team for Lucious’ son, Luke Fox — although, the exact nature of this team and their ultimate goals still remain unknown. Preview pages for the story, which you can see below, see Harley (without her blonde hair) sitting at a table alongside Black Manta, Deathstroke, Poison Ivy, Gorilla Grodd and a fifth figure whose face is hidden. The synopsis for the story reads, “Harley Quinn writer Stephanie Phillips and artist Ann Maulina team up for “Ninjas! At the Arcade.” Harley fights a group of ninjas from the League of Assassins in an arcade, complete with lights, noise, and an impressive collection of movie quotes from the Mistress of Mayhem! Meanwhile, Luke Fox and an unlikely ally think Harley Quinn is the perfect addition to their “team,” but what team, and for what purpose?”
Harley, who first appeared in Batman: The Animated Series before making her way to comics in 1993’s The Batman Adventures #12, had joined numerous DC teams before. Along with being a relatively regular member of the Suicide Squad and the Gotham City Sirens, Harley started her own group — the Gang of Harleys — to help clean up Brooklyn in 2016’s Harley Quinn #16. The Harley Quinn animated series on HBO Max also sees her lead a crew consisting of Clay Face, Poison Ivy, King Shark, Sy Borgman and Doctor Psycho, though the latter of the bunch eventually betrays the team and joins up with Darkseid’s army.
Shadow War Zone #1 will feature three other additional stories set in the DC universe, the first of which comes from Joshua Williamson and Otto Schmidt and will dive into the villainous Angel Breaker’s relationship with her former mentor, Black Canary. Another one comes from Nadia Shammas and Sweeney Boo and will dive into the younger years of Talia al Ghul. Clownhunter, Ghost-Maker and Black Spider will lastly star in a “Panic Room” story, which comes from Ed Brisson, Mike Bowden, Mark Morales and Antonio Fabela.
Luke Fox first appeared in 2013’s Batwing #19. When David Zavimbe decides to step down as Batwing, Luke takes up the mantle; although, he puts the crime-fighting on hold for a time at the start of DC Rebirth in an effort to focus more on his career. Luke eventually returns to the cape and cowl and becomes accepted as a member of the Bat Family. Luke’s brother, Jace Fox, also has ties to Batman, as Jace becomes the new face of the Dark Knight in DC’s I Am Batman series.
Shadow War Zone #1 releases on May 17 from DC.
