Mini environmentalist Aneeshwar Kunchala stole hearts on Sunday night’s episode of Britain’s Got Talent with his passionate poetry about wildlife and conserving the planet, as Amanda Holden dubbed him ‘the perfect person to follow in David Attenborough’s footsteps’.

Schoolboy Aneeshwar, seven, was unveiled as the first of Britain’s Got Talent’s Golden Moments, a new segment where each judge surprises an unsuspecting act, nominated without their knowledge, and invites them to audition at the London Palladium.

Judge David Walliams travelled to his school in Warrington, Cheshire, to surprise him and dressed up as a panda to ask him onto the show in front of his excited schoolmates.

Dressed in what is soon likely to become an iconic outfit, Aneeshwar donned camo trousers, a grey jumper, blue baseball cap and rucksack (complete with attached binoculars, naturally) and wore a head mic set for his audition.

He then passionately addressed his poetry on wildlife conservation and saving the planet to the audience, as his friends joined him on the stage dressed as a variety of animals and natural things, including an elephant, a tree, and a tiger.

He implored people to ‘stop getting it wrong’ to a stirring soundtrack, which got the audience on their feet and the judges applauding as he finished his audition.

When asked how it felt by David, the youngster said it felt ‘very good’.

Simon Cowell dubbed his act ‘incredible’ and asked how old he had been when writing his material, to which Aneeshwar replied: ‘I was about six years old.’

Alesha Dixon called him ‘a remarkable young man’ and Amanda commented: ‘The message is so important and when I think about somebody like David Attenborough, somebody we obviously all look up to an admire, you’re the perfect person to follow in his footsteps.’

David added: ‘Well I think we’ll look back on this as the moment when the world met Aneeshwar. This is the start of something very special.’

Aneeshwar picked up an easy four yeses from the judges, to which he fist-pumped the air and yelled: ‘Oh yeah!’

The adorable schoolboy is safely into the next round, where we can hope to see him saved to perform again.

Elsewhere on the show, comedian Axel Blake nabbed Simon Cowell’s golden buzzer for the series, after impressing him with jokes on topics including Covid.

Britain’s Got Talent continues at 8pm next Saturday on ITV.
