Denver’s best tacos: Vote in the finals to see if Tacos Selene or Kike’s Red Tacos will win our March Madness bracket
Our March Madness taco bracket has officially become an underdog story.
Last week, Denver Post readers voted on the Final Four in our search for the best taco shop in the Mile High City, and in both matchups, it was an upset.
Tacos Selene, which started as a food truck parked at a local AutoZone more than 20 years ago, edged out Los Dos Potrillos with about 52% of the vote. Kiké’s Red Tacos, a newcomer to the local taco scene that has clearly made an impression, garnered 62% of votes to beat stalwart Mexico City Lounge.
“This is nothing like what we expected, to be completely honest,” said Cesar Silva Gonzalez, who helps run Kiké’s Red Tacos truck with his parents, Enrique Silva Figueroa and Olivia Gonzalez.
Celene Rivera, daughter of Tacos Selene owners Carmen and Enedino Gonzalez, said her parents have been very proud to have their food and hard work recognized over the years, including as one of the top taco joints along the Front Range.
“We’re really proud and happy that we’ve made it this far and hope to keep expanding and continuing to do good,” she said.
So it all comes down to this: Tacos Selene versus Kiké’s Red Tacos. If you haven’t yet sampled their dishes for yourself, now is the time to indulge. Voting for the final round runs through Monday, April 4, at 9 a.m.
