BJP has done major harm to the country: Mamata Banerjee
“If someone protests against NRC, they (BJP) open fire, if farmers agitate, they attack them. In the time of Covid, bodies are floated in the river. The day is not very far when BJP will have to hide and that day is coming very soon for the nation. BJP had coined the slogan “iss ki baar 200 par” but in reality, the party has disappeared from Bengal. It’s not so easy to fight Trinamool,” WB CM said, while speaking on the floor of Bengal assembly on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, two BJP MLAs have been suspended for the rest of the session. The two BJP MLAs-Mihir Goswami and Sudip Mukhopadhyay, in connection with the ruckus created by the BJP MLAs on the opening day of the budget session of the West Bengal assembly on March 7, for obstructing the Governor to give his inaugural speech. The BJP MLAs protested inside the house today against the suspension and then staged a walk out even as Mamata Banerjee gave a 40-minutes speech in the assembly, slamming the saffron party.
Flaying the BJP for creating ruckus inside the assembly, Mamata Banerjee said, “The BJP does not listen to anyone and has no attention to what people say. They should not be given a single seat.”
She also claimed that Bengal has been deprived by the Centre and it did not receive the fund for Cyclone rehabilitation. “They (BJP) raise slogans and say ‘Ram Ram’ but in practice they don’t say ‘Jai Siya Ram’ but shout Jai Sri Ram. Why, because BJP doesn’t respect Maa Sita or women as a whole,” Mamata Banerjee said. Chaos prevailed inside the assembly during WB CM’s speech on the assembly floor even as BJP MLAs agitated against the suspension of two MLAs. The BJP MLAs demanded withdrawal of the suspension, clapped and raised slogans.
Partha Chatterjee, Trinamool Minister, moved a motion, proposing suspension of the two MLAs, which was passed through voice vote in the assembly. After suspension, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari sought withdrawal of the suspension of the two MLAs. The Speaker told him to submit a written appeal.
Sudip Mukhopadhyay, one of the suspended MLAs, claimed that his party protested inside the house against mass rigging in the recently concluded Municipal polls in 108 civic bodies. He also blamed the ruling party women MLAs for attacking the Governor.
Political slugfest continues between Trinamool and BJP over suspension of the two MLAs. Trinamool Minister Partha Chatterjee said, “BJP party is a wrongly led party which is not accountable to people. They have behaved in such a way which was disrespectful towards the Governor and the Assembly.”
LoP Suvendu Adhikari, however, claimed that his party will continue to protest in the assembly. “The two MLAs will sit outside the Assembly Hall and will be accompanied by other MLAs by turn,” Adhikari said.
