Peaky Blinders returns to screen at last tomorrow night, over two years since the season 5 finale – but will Tom Hardy be starring in season 6?

Fans were left shocked by Alfie Solomons’ (Tom Hardy) so-called return from the dead at the end of season five.

Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) headed to Margate to see the East-End gangster alive and well in his seaside home.

It turned out that despite him being presumed dead after being shot by Tommy at the end of season four, he was, instead, just badly injured.

But as the stakes are set to be raised even higher in the last hurrah for the Shelbys, many fans are wondering whether Alfie will be back to assist with their plans.

Here’s everything you need to know about when the formidable character will return to the fold.

Who does Tom Hardy play in Peaky Blinders?

As already touched on, actor Hardy plays Alfie, who is a Jewish gang leader who resided in Camden Town, London.

He first appeared in season two, having sent Tommy a telegram as a form of greeting, but also as a way of getting him to help with the war between the Jews and the Italians.

Most of Alfie’s income comes from racetrack rackets, although he also runs a rum distillery, jeweling business and protection rackets in Camden.

What happened to him in season 5?

Alfie was thought to have been dead after Tommy shot him in season four, over yet another betrayal.

But this was all proved to be false when Tommy went to visit him in Margate, the exact place he launched the bullet in the previous series.

Alfie was confirmed to still be alive, but his face was left badly disfigured due to the injuries he suffered.

However, despite the pair’s fractured relationship, Tommy and Alfie are clearly still allies as the Shelby gang leader asks the latter for help in taking down Oswald Mosley (Sam Claflin)

They’re seen bantering and Tommy seems to be at ease at Alfie’s house, and he doesn’t hide his smirks at his old friend.

So it seems there could be a way back for them after all.

Will he be back in season 6?

The good news for Peaky Blinders fans is, Alfie is definitely going to be in season six.

Hardy’s character was shown in the recent trailer, as well as being spotted in a couple of newly released pictures.

But it’s not yet known when – or how – the character will make a dramatic return to the series.

Creator Steven Knight teased what would be to come from Alfie, simply sharing: ‘Chaos.

‘I think it’s difficult to explain without giving stuff away, but we might find Alfie in a position not quite as strong as he normally is.

‘And the question is, can he build himself back up?’ he told RadioTimes.com

Knight previously revealed to Metro.co.uk that a return wasn’t always on the cards for the character.

He shared ahead of the final season: ‘The plan changed, let me put it that way – because Tom does love this character.’

Peaky Blinders returns tomorrow night at 9pm on BBC One.
