Man City fans cast doubt on reviving Harry Kane transfer saga this summer

Manchester City were sent a timely reminder of what Harry Kane would have brought to the Etihad Stadium after he scored twice in Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-2 win over City at the weekend.

The England captain, who was the subject of heavy interest and bids from City last summer, netted a second-half brace to seal a surprise victory for Antonio Conte’s side and condemn Pep Guardiola’s team to just their second home defeat of the season.

After Riyad Mahrez had brought City level for a second time with a 92nd minute penalty, Kane scored again three minutes later, heading home from close range, to put a dent in Guardiola’s hopes of retaining his side’s Premier League title crown without the immediate threat of Liverpool just behind them.

Kane’s double took his tally of goals for the season in the Premier League to seven, meaning he remains well below his usual standard for a campaign.

Nevertheless, his all-round performance against City was one to admire, as it featured both his poacher’s instincts and his outstanding passing ability.

Recently, the Manchester Evening News conducted a survey to gather the thoughts of City’s supporters on what their stance is on the club reigniting their interest in Kane this coming summer, amid City’s ongoing search for a new out-and-out striker.

From the 352 votes cast, a staggering 69.6 per cent of voters believe City should no longer pursue a move for the England striker, whereas the remaining 30.4 per cent of voters think the club should try again to secure his signature.

Despite his tally of just seven league goals this season, Kane has scored 17 times in all competitions in 34 appearances this term, averaging a tally of one goal every two games.

But it is important to point out that Spurs have not enjoyed the most plain sailing of seasons, with up and down form and changes in management disrupting Kane’s rhythm.

However, Kane has scored 50 goals since the start of last season, meaning he continues to boast a hugely impressive record in front of goal.
