DC Seems Poised to Kill Damian Wayne’s Mother, Talia al Ghul
Damian Wayne has lost a father figure, will soon lose his grandfather and possibly more according to DC’s May 2022 solicitations.
Damian Wayne’s mother, Talia al Ghul, may be on the chopping block in an upcoming issue of Robin.
Written by Joshua Williamson with art by Norm Rapmund and Roger Cruz, Robin #14 will feature the seventh part of the “Shadow War” event, a crossover between Batman, Robin and Deathstroke Inc. The first shot fired in the war will be the assassination of Talia’s father, Ra’s al Ghul, by Deathstroke’s hand, prompting retaliation from the League of Shadows. The solicitation for the issue teases a fight to the death between Talia and Deathstroke, but since the mercenary is set to be in future titles, it appears that Talia might need a Lazarus Pit following the duel.

DC Comics recently announced a new crisis-level event, Dark Crisis. The event will spin out of Justice League #75, which is titled “Death of the Justice League” and is set to kill off nine major heroes within the DC Universe. Artwork for the event shows that DC’s legacy heroes will need to step up to stop the new crisis, but also that Deathstroke’s new status quo will continue into the series.
In his solo title, Deathstroke Inc., Slade Wilson seized control over the latest iteration of the Secret Society of Super-Villains. The move has solidified the mercenary’s villainous status, being that Slade has skirted the line between hero and villain for some time. The society will serve as his forces in the coming conflict with the League of Shadows.
If Talia al Ghul dies in Robin and Batman dies in Justice League #75, Damian Wayne is about to have one more thing in common with his father: being an orphan. While that may be dark like the upcoming crisis, Damian also wouldn’t be the first Robin to be orphaned in comics. After all, Dick Grayson/Nightwing, the first Robin, was taken in under Bruce’s “wing” following the murder of his parents, John and Mary Grayson.
However, the Bat Family and relatives to it have come back to life before, Damian included. For Red Hood fans, it is common knowledge that the second Robin, Jason Todd, was brought back to life by Talia by using the Lazarus Pit (though there were also some Multiversal shenanigans with Superboy Prime shattering reality). Of course, a prominent member of the Bat Family, Alfred Pennyworth, is still dead after being killed by Bane in front of Damian, something that has haunted him throughout Robin.
Robin #14 will be written by Williamson with interior and main cover art by Rapmund and Cruz. Variant covers for the issue will be contributed to by Dan Schoening, Dexter Soy and Simone Di Meo. The issue goes on sale May 24 from DC Comics.
