Jose Mourinho told Roma players they lacked balls and ‘s***’ themselves vs Inter
The former Chelsea and Manchester United manager’s return to Serie A is quickly turning sour and several players are reported to be unhappy about the language Mourinho used after the damaging defeat.
Goals from ex-Roma striker Edin Dzeko and Alexis Sanchez, whom Mourinho coached during his ill-fated spell in charge at Old Trafford, ensure a miserable return to San Siro for the 59-year-old.
After the game, Mourinho is, according to, Corriere dello Sport, reported to have launched into a foul-mouthed tirade and demanded to know why his player continue to ‘s*** themselves’ against elite opposition.
‘I want to know why, playing face to face with Inter, you s*** yourselves in the first 10 minutes,’ he said. ‘And then I want to know why even against Milan you s*** yourselves 10 minutes in! Everyone, no one excluded.
‘I want to know why for two years you have shown yourselves small against the big sides. If we are small, the referees treat us as small! They treat Rome as a child.
‘Inter are a super team, you had them in front of you and instead of finding the right motivations, you s*** yourself!
‘A man’s biggest flaw is a lack of balls, a lack of personality. Are you afraid of games like this? Then go play in Serie C where you will never find teams with champions, top stadiums, the pressures of great football.
‘You are people without balls. The worst thing for a man!’
Having been dumped out of the cup, Roma will now turn their focus to the league and a top-four finish. But they currently sit seventh in Serie A, six points off the Champions League qualification spots.
It is not the first time Mourinho has read the riot act this season after he let rip at his squad, which contains the likes of Chris Smalling, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Tammy Abraham, following a 4-3 defeat against Juventus.
