Roy Keane has slammed the ‘dreadful’ performances of goalkeepers Dean Henderson and Joe Lumley after Middlesbrough’s FA Cup penalty shoot-out victory over Manchester United.

United took the lead through Jadon Sancho with the visitors equalising in the second half through a goal from Matt Crooks.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Anthony Elanga were all guilty of passing up chances for United to put the game to bed with a penalty shoot-out deciding the contest after no breakthrough after 120 minutes.

Middlesbrough clinched a dramatic 8-7 shoot-out with Elanga missing the decisive spot kick, sending his effort straight over the bar.

While the previous 15 spot kicks were of high quality, Keane was not impressed with either goalkeeping performance.

‘The keepers were dreadful,’ Keane told ITV.

‘The two goalkeepers were dreadful in the penalty shootout. They got nowhere near them.’

Ian Wright, also on punditry duty, agreed, telling ITV: ‘He [Chris Wilder] said they had been practising. It looked like it.

‘Both goalkeepers looked like they had no chance the way they were diving all around  the place.

‘It didn’t look like either of them were getting anywhere near them. They were dreadful.’

Henderson was making just his third start of the season for United having shared first-team duties with David de Gea last season.
