Made-in-India Racing Game Bot Rods Receives Epic MegaGrant

Bengaluru-based game developer Holy Cow Productions has received a MegaGrant from Epic Games, fueling its next game Bot Rods’ development. The game is currently in development with Holy Cow collaborating with two other developers, Hobo Interactive and The Cirqus, with it targeting a release on Steam.

Bot Rods is an arcade-styled racer currently slated to release on Steam, but a release on the Nintendo Switch is still a possibility. The developer is well known for being one of the few in the country who have seen success on the Nintendo Switch, a console that isn’t officially available from its manufacturer in the country.

IGN India reached out to Holy Cow Productions’ founder Goutham Dindukurthi to know more.

“We were extremely excited to have received the Epic MegaGrant for our game,” says Dindukurthi. “We are nearing the end of our development on the game for PC and are looking to start porting the game to other consoles. Receiving this grant gives us a huge boost for wrapping up the game and launching as soon as possible. We are also reaching out to publishers now and the MegaGrant will definitely add credibility to the team and the project.”

His comments suggest that the Epic MegaGrant could help bring Bot Rods to other platforms sooner. Safe to say these would include PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X.

An Epic MegaGrant usually ranges from $5,000 to $500,000 and is given out to hand-picked projects across gaming, film and education which use Epic Games’ services, like Unreal Engine. The engine’s scalability also makes it relatively easy for developers to make multiple ports of their games, as seen with Fortnite and The Pathless, both of which are available on consoles as well as mobile platforms.

With development on the PC version of the game finished, the MegaGrant makes console ports of Bot Rods a real possibility. While Dindukurthi couldn’t share the exact terms of the grant, or the amount received, he did say that it will significantly boost the team’s marketing efforts closer to launch.

“[W]e are positive that it will help us with marketing efforts for the game’s launch and some of the polish and porting of the game,” he said.

Bot Rods currently sits without a release date, with the game confirmed to release on PC (Steam) when it does.
