Jamie Redknapp’s scathing view of Man Utd boss Ralf Rangnick – ‘He’s making it up’

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick was ‘making up’ systems during the Red Devils’ disappointing defeat by Wolves on Monday, according to Jamie Redknapp. Joao Moutinho scored the only goal of the game at Old Trafford to hand Rangnick the first loss of his interim reign.

The Portugal midfielder scored with nine minutes remaining at Old Trafford.

It was the worst possible end to a disastrous performance by United.

Rangnick’s side managed just two shots on target despite starting with Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho.

The latter summed up United’s disjointed attack when he opted to shoot instead of play in Ronaldo during the first half. His strike was blocked, much to Ronaldo’s annoyance.

Substitute Bruno Fernandes had a free kick excellently saved by Jose Sa in added-time but that was United’s best chance.

Rangnick had initially started with a very attacking line-up in his usual 4-2-2-2 formation.

However, he then reverted to a back-five in the second half to match up to Wolves’ system.

Sky Sports pundit Redknapp scathed about Rangnick’s approach and suggested that the former RB Leipzig tactician was ‘making up’ his ideas as he went along.

“The Watford performance (4-1 defeat in November) was a real low for Manchester United but I reckon the players are looking at that and saying: ‘at least we looked a bit exciting going forwards’.

“There was nothing today. When you watch Man City play and the best teams, they have control of the midfield.

“United never had any control of that midfield today. Never once did they play passes to each other. They never had an ability to just take the sting out of the game.

“They were so poor today.”
