Throughout the Christmas period this year, the coronavirus pandemic has continued to impact the output of programmes on TV, including Good Morning Britain.

Earlier this month, it was announced GMB had been pulled off air earlier than expected due to fears over Covid-19, amid increasing concerns surrounding the Omicron variant.

While the Christmas show still aired, it was revealed that episodes that were due to be shown between December 25 and the new year had been scrapped so as to protect the team and give them an ‘extended break’.

This Morning, Loose Women and Lorraine have also been off air in the days since Christmas.

So when are the flagship ITV programmes due to return?

However the show did return on Wednesday December 29, beginning with a show looking back on the highlights from 2021, rather than the usual programme.

The series is back in its usual slot for the remainder of the week, before another short break for the New Year’s Day bank holiday.

It will then return once again on Tuesday January 4 on the regular schedule.

As for GMB, a statement given to The Sun from an ITV spokesperson explained why the show wouldn’t be on during the week between Christmas and New Year’s.

‘GMB was due to be on air from Weds 29 – Fri 31 December 2021 but due to the pandemic and to protect our teams, we have decided to give them an extended break,’ they said.

‘GMB will not broadcast next week, but will be back on air on Tues 4 Jan 2022.’

For the remainder of this week, GMB has been replaced by James Martin’s Saturday Morning, with Supermarket Sweep airing during This Morning’s usual slot and other shows and films replacing Loose Women.

However, on January 4, it looks like they’ll all be back to normal.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am, Lorraine from 9am, This Morning from 10am and Loose Women from 12.30pm on ITV.
