Donny van de Beek is reconsidering the prospect of leaving Manchester United in the January transfer window following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, according to reports.

The Dutch midfielder was one of several fringe players intent on pushing for a move away in the upcoming window after failing to secure a regular role under Solskjaer.

Before Solskjaer’s exit on Sunday, Van de Beek had featured in just six games for United this season and had lost his place in the Netherlands national side due to his lack of playing time.

However, MailOnline now reports that Van de Beek is assessing his options following Solskjaer’s departure and could be tempted to stay at United if his chances of playing regularly improve in the next few weeks.

The report also claims that Jesse Lingard, whose contract expires at the end of the season, is still planning to leave United in January, regardless of the club’s managerial situation.

Michael Carrick, who has been appointed as United’s interim manager, put a huge show of faith in Van de Beek on Tuesday evening as he started him the 2-0 win over Villarreal in the Champions League, with Bruno Fernandes dropping to the bench.

Van de Beek struggled to make an impact against Villarreal and Carrick now faces a decision over whether he keeps the Dutchman in his starting XI for United’s Premier League fixture against Chelsea on Sunday.

Carrick, meanwhile, also reassured Fernandes that he remains an important part of United’s squad.

When asked if Fernandes’ omission against Villarreal was down to fatigue or poor form, Carrick said on Tuesday: ‘Not one of the players have been at their best, there is no hiding from that.

‘But there is a team to be picked. I love Bruno, he is a fantastic player, he ran his socks off on Saturday.

‘But it’s the job to pick the team and that is the team I picked. But that doesn’t mean Bruno isn’t important by any stretch.’
