James Blunt on serving in Army alongside Prince Harry: ‘He would call me Sir’
James performed on Strictly Come Dancing’s results show last night on BBC One. Saturday’s show marked the eighth week of the series, with the grand final now edging closer and closer. Sara Davies left the competition after winning the dance-off against Tilly Ramsey.
The results show will also included a special Remembrance Day routine and a performance from the ‘You’re Beautiful’ singer James.
The singer is a former reconnaissance officer in the Life Guards regiment of the army, and served under NATO during the Kosovo War in 1999.
Soon after leaving the military he propelled himself to international fame in 2004 upon the release of his debut album Back to Bedlam.

Of course, James’ life as an international pop star has led him to rub shoulders with A-listers and royalty, yet he revealed he first came across Harry when the pair were both in the Army.
Speaking on the Jonathan Ross Show in January 2014, James said: “He joined a little bit after me, so there was a time when Harry would call me ‘Sir’ perhaps.”
He added: “But now I would call him Your Highness.”
Harry and the singer struck up a friendship, and James went on to perform at the 2016 Invictus Games after the Duke of Sussex reportedly invited him over text.
“Him I know from the army.
“He’s a very nice man, a really phenomenal soldier, who does a lot of work for other people, for veterans, for Sentebale charity, for children in Africa.
“I think under great scrutiny they seem to try a lot for other people.
“So the vitriol is leaning on bullying for me.”
Harry is not the only royal the ‘Goodbye My Lover’ singer has ties with.
He has also struck up a friendship with Princess Beatrice and has an unlikely connection to the Queen Mother.
In 2000 James was posted to the Household Cavalry Mounted regiment in London, as the Queen’s guard.
He stood guard at the coffin of the Queen Mother during her lying in state and was also part of her funeral procession on April 9 2002.
James is due to perform at the Royal Variety Performance at the Royal Albert Hall next Thursday, alongside the likes of Rod Stewart and Ed Sheeran.
Watch Strictly Come Dancing’s result show tonight from 7:20pm on BBC One.
