Donny van de Beek being treated like a ‘competition winner’ at Man Utd
The former Ajax star remains on the periphery of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad having started just two games from 16 in all competitions this season.
Van de Beek considered leaving in the summer transfer window but according to his agent at the time, was reassured over his role in the team this season.
But his persistent lack of game time has frustrated fans, particularly during a period when United’s other midfield options have struggled.
The Netherlands international has come off the bench for late cameo appearances in United’s last two games against Atalanta and Manchester City.
According to The Daily Star, the situation has become so bad within the club that when van de Beek is thrown on for those late runouts, he is ‘compared to a competition winner who landed the prize of a few minutes in the famous red shirt,’ according to the report.
Van de Beek has started just four times in the league since September 2020.
The report adds that van de Beek still trains well and remains fully committed to the cause, but some senior players are privately questioning how he is being handled.
According to the Mail, van de Beek is likely to push for a move when the January transfer window opens.
