Personal trainer’s ‘KFC Zinger burger’ from Aldi

A Brisbane personal trainer who shares fast food alternatives on TikTok has gone viral with her take on a KFC favourite.

A Brisbane personal trainer has recreated a KFC Zinger burger using cheap grocery items from Aldi – describing her healthier version as “delicious”.

Bec Hardgrave has amassed a huge following on TikTok sharing lower calorie options of cult junk food favourites such as Macca’s, KFC and Starbucks.

When the fried chicken chain released a new “Zinger Crunch” range last week, Bec decided to set to work offering a healthier alternative to the burger.

The 25-year-old used only affordable items from German supermarket Aldi, including brioche buns, hot and spicy chicken tenders, fresh slaw and Doritos for the “crunch” element.

She cooked the tenders, found in the freezer section, and cooked them in the air fryer while lightly toasting the buns on a fry pan.

“I used light mayo and Sirracha to make my ‘Zinger’ sauce,” Bec told her almost 60,000 followers in her new video.

“I added my slaw and a slice of cheese and some Doritos for that extra crunch.

“Altogether it was 456 calories. You guys definitely have to try this one out, it’s delicious.”

To keep the calorie content down, Bec used just three chips, one slice of cheese and a small spoon of sauce.

She stacks all the ingredients onto two chicken pieces.

The KFC burger appears to be a little more generous in that department.

The “Zinger Crunch” is a permanent new addition to the Colonel’s menu in Australia, with its nutritional information currently not present on the KFC website.

However the original Zinger burger – which has one chicken piece – is stated as having 1816kj (434 calories).

TikTok users were quick to thank Bec for the alternative, labelling it “amazing” – while some said they would “stick to KFC”.

“Yum ur version looks so much better,” one wrote on Instagram.

“Looks so good,” another agreed.

One woman said: “My bf is not gonna be happy if remake this.”

The fitness influencer previously showed followers how to recreate the iconic Big Mac burger using ingredients from Aldi for only 420 calories while getting over 30 grams of protein.

“I found these Aldi brioche buns and they taste literally just like Macca’s,” she explained in the video back in September.

“Get 100 grams of lean beef, press it down with a plate to make it flat, add your smoked cheese.”

She then says to add burger sauce, raw onion, lettuce and pickles.

“This is 420 calories and over 30 grams of protein and I’m loving it.”

Bec, a qualified personal trainer, told news.com.au at the time she loves being able to help people and give them food options to help them stay on track.

“I think it’s ridiculous that people think they can’t have a slice of birthday cake because they’re on a restrictive diet. You should be able to enjoy your life and still have goals,” Bec said.

“I find there is a lot of misinformation in the fitness and health industry and it is very over complicated. I want to show people that they don’t have to eat super bland and boring food to lose weight.

“I also really enjoy helping people and if they are able to get a little closer to their weight loss goals by choosing yummy snacks that I discover, I think that is really cool.”
