GMB in presenter shake-up with new guest hosts including Susanna Reid’s friend

Good Morning Britain is set to undergo another presenter shake-up as it adds to its guest host rota.

The news comes after Richard Madeley confirmed he will continue as a guest presenter on the ITV news programme, after a lengthy break.

The veteran broadcaster, 65, has been one of several guest hosts for the ITV breakfast programme following Piers Morgan’s sudden departure in March.

Adil Ray, Alastair Campbell, Bill Turnbull and Martin Lewis have all stepped up to the main host role in the last eight months.

But former Labour shadow chancellor Ed Balls and TV judge Robert Rinder have now been announced as the latest GMB guest hosts.

Strictly Come Dancing star Ed, 54, will appear alongside Susanna Reid for three days from Monday, November 15, ITV has confirmed.

While Judge Rinder, a barrister who fronts his own reality courtroom series, will join Susanna on two occasions – November 10 and December 1.

Ed said: “I always thoroughly enjoy being a guest on Good Morning Britain, but I have a sneaky suspicion I’m going to enjoy hosting alongside Susanna even more.

Ed Balls is joining GMB

“Eagle-eyed viewers may remember I appeared as a guest on GMB during my stint on Strictly, and during that appearance Susanna and I recreated one of my dance lifts. I can reassure everyone that won’t be happening again, and that my feet will be kept firmly on the ground…”

Robert, 43, added: “I think being a seasoned barrister will stand me in good stead for hosting Good Morning Britain later this month, demonstrating I’m just as comfortable holding politicians to account as I am judging the week’s TV with Susanna on the Gogglebox sofa.

“Plus, who wouldn’t want the chance to guest present GMB alongside one of their best friends?”

Rob Rinder will swap the courtroom for the GMB studio

A teaser of both of their appearances has been teased on GMB’s social media channels.

It shows Susanna quizzing her pal Robert about early stars and whether he expected to be appearing on the breakfast programme – to which he replied to all ‘no comment’.

But he goes on to say he “takes no nonsense” before adding: “If a politician refuses to answer any of my questions, all I’m going to say is there will be trouble.”

Reacting to the news on Twitter, Rob commented: “A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are… And doesn’t take nonsense from anybody. GOOD MORNING BRITAIN! Wednesday @GMB @susannareid100.”

While Ed also shared the news of his appearance, commenting: “Very much look forward to this..”

Welcoming the additions, Neil Thompson, Good Morning Britain editor, said: “We have a great existing roster of presenters on GMB and it’s always exciting to welcome new guest hosts to the show.

“We look forward to both Ed and Rob joining the team for some dates this month.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV and ITV Hub.
