I’m always plagued with illnesses – I don’t see the point in being here
DEAR DEIDRE: I WISH my mother had given me up for adoption like my dad told her to.
I’m a single, 41-year-old woman and I have crooked teeth, a bent nose and frizzy hair. I’ve always hated looking in the mirror.
I seem to be plagued with illnesses.
I caught Covid and was ill for weeks, then I found lumps in my neck and convinced myself it was cancer.
My doctor told me it was an infection but I felt so poorly. My siblings are horrible people. Why can’t they get sick? Why is it always me?
I try to be kind to others and yet I’m the one who catches any illness going.
I don’t see the point in me being here.

DEIDRE SAYS: You are a kind and caring person and it is what is on the inside which is important.
The knowledge that your dad wanted you to be given up for adoption has eroded any self-worth.
As hurtful as that knowledge is, you would do well to dwell on your mother’s determination to keep you.
As your teeth are affecting you please consider treatment. Find a dentist through nhs.uk and talk to them about how best to sort out your teeth.
A good haircut can make the world of difference so ask a friend if they can recommend a hairdresser. My support pack Raising Self-esteem will help too.
