I saved £60k transforming my car into a campervan – it even has a double bed
A WOMAN saved £60,000 by transforming her used car into a campervan complete with a double bed and heaps of storage.
Travel photographer Rebecca took to TikTok to share how she converted her Subaru Forester into a home on wheels.
The video on her channel, Roam Free Rebecca, showed the solo traveller first purchase wood from Lowe’s Home Improvement.
The “avid wanderer” measured the wood and cut a platform, before sanding it, drilling pilot holes and putting in the screws.
The next step was shellacking to protect the wood, checking the fit and putting carpet on the platform.
The final stage was checking the fit of the platform, doing any adjustments and making sure everything worked the way it should.
Rebecca, from the US, then showed her followers a before and after shot revealing the final result.
She said: “For now my car camper is finished just in time for summer adventures, so be sure to follow along for more!”
Volkswagen California campervans can retail for between £60,000 and £70,000.
And social media users were quick to comment on the footage and ask questions about her build.
One said: “Do you find you need curtains or anything inside for when you’re sleeping?”
Rebecca replied: “I’ve got weathertech window covers! Helps insulate at night too.”
Another asked: “Were the continuous hinges put on the pieces that flip up so you can use your seats?”
She answered: “Yep! Subaru is short so when I sleep I have to put the seats all the way forward and put down the flaps. But I’m also 5ft 9in.”
A third questioned: “Did you take out the seats or how does it look when you put the seats back up?”
Rebecca said: “Seats still in! I just didn’t want to store them. I have to stack the platform to put seats back up so back is either stacked boards or I take all out.”
