Mum considers calling new baby ‘Lottie’ after winning lottery
A heavily pregnant mum celebrated an unexpected arrival – a £55,555 lottery win.
Sarah Barrett, 36, won the huge amount in the People’s Postcode Lottery’s weekly Millionaire Street prize just two days before giving birth to her third child.
And she joked with partner Ben Taylor, 38, that they could name the baby Lottie – in honour of her big win.
The secondary school special needs teacher, laughed: ‘We might need to have a think about calling the baby Lottie now.’
While insurance underwriter Ben said: ‘This must be an omen. This hasn’t broken Sarah’s waters yet… But it is perfect timing.’
Sarah welcomed baby Elise, weighing 7lbs12oz, just two days later and the couple have big plans for how to spend their jackpot.
‘This is life-changing money and a lot more than we were expecting,’ said Sarah. ‘This could help us make the house bigger. I’d like to take the kids to Disneyland when they’re a bit older.
‘We also got engaged at Christmas and we’re hoping to get married next year.’
The couple – who also have daughter Sienna, five, and two-year-old son Jaxon – signed up for People’s Postcode Lottery after just missing out on a prize five years ago when their neighbours shared a big win a few months before they moved in.
‘We just missed out when we were moving in,’ says Sarah. ‘But we signed up after that. My mum and dad have always played it and there are so many good causes the money goes to.
‘My daughter is five and, with the baby, we’ll be a family of five – now we’ve just won £55,555.
‘Five is now my new lucky number!’
Sarah celebrated her win in June with 16 other neighbours, including childminder, Mel Bell, 56, who lives just a few doors down.
She also picked up £55,555 and said the money would help with the arrival of her first grandchild – Heidi Rose Manning – born only nine days after getting the good news about her win.
‘We’ll do something amazing with this,’ mum of two Mel said. ‘It will make a massive difference.
‘You don’t often get handed a big wedge like this. We don’t want to waste it.
‘We’ve got a new granddaughter and we’re also getting married.
‘When your kids are small, you have other things to spend your money on. Now we’re finally ok.
‘I can’t believe this, and none of the family will believe it.’
