Aussies ride stroke of luck as gremlin duds Root
Led by Zak Crawley and Joe Root, England batted itself into a strong position on day two of the fourth Ashes Test.
Crawley smashed 189 runs from 182 balls and Root 84 from 95, the pair combining for a 206-run stand at Old Trafford.
The hosts lead by 67 runs at the close play with Ben Stokes (24) and Harry Brook (14) the batsmen set to resume in the middle on day three.
