Apple TV viewers left furious over ‘terrible’ Lionel Messi unveiling coverage
Apple TV viewers eagerly tuned in to witness the momentous unveiling of superstar Lionel Messi, only to be met with a wave of frustration and disappointment due to the abysmal audio quality that plagued the broadcast. As fans eagerly awaited the introduction of the legendary player, persistent audio issues marred the experience, leaving viewers furious and struggling to immerse themselves in the historic event fully.
“They didn’t even bother to give direct audio or video on the #messi event. No clue what’s going on, and Apple TV clearly doesn’t know either,” wrote one user.
“The audio stream quality from Apple TV in the biggest event of its history is a nightmare,” wrote another Twitter user.
“Whoever is the production manager or sound engineer for the Messi show at Inter Miami’s DRV PNK Stadium should be fired. The audio is terrible. DO BETTER,” expressed another frustrated viewer on social media.
Another aggravated user wrote: “A video played for the fans in the stadium but for people watching on Apple TV, all we got was muffled audio. Jesus Christ.”
“Is Apple TV really about to botch their most important and biggest live broadcast to date??? They didn’t think to pipe in the stadium audio???,” questioned another fan.”
TV journalists criticized the production’s audio quality as “appalling.” The first 10 minutes lacked audio, and Messi’s Spanish words needed to be better equalized with the English translations, confusing English and Spanish speakers.
Celebrities such as Tom Brady, Steph Curry, Marc Anthony, and Alejandro Sanz welcomed the legend as he arrived at the center stage. Inter Miami owner Jorge Mas introduced the new number 10. Messi spoke some words of wisdom to Miami fans, but the audio quality was poor.
Messi said: “Thank you very much, good night. First of all, I want to thank all the people of Miami for this welcome, this affection. I am very happy to be here, to be with you. I want to thank Jose [Mas], David [Beckham] for the welcome. They are making everything easy for us; everything has been spectacular since we arrived.
“I really want to start training and compete. I want to win for the club to continue growing. I hope that you will join us as we have since the season began. I thank my new colleagues for the welcome. I am very happy to have chosen this city with my family, to have chosen this project. I have no doubt that we are going to have a good time. Thank you all very much for this day.”
The event was previously dubbed “The Unveil” but was changed to “Bienvenido Messi” on MLS Season Pass through Apple TV. Sergio Busquets also appeared during the program, conveying a short message to Inter Miami fans stating his excitement to join the club. The Inter Miami presentation started nearly two hours late due to heavy rain delays causing the program to be shorter than expected.
