Taylor Swift fans have been sweating all day as they awaited the dreaded ping of one specific email.
Those emails have now been sent and fates have been sealed.
Ok, that all sounds very dramatic, but this is truly life and death stuff for the Swiftie community.
We are, of course, talking about Taylor’s UK Eras Tour shows, which she’ll bring across the pond in summer 2024.
Following this week’s Midnights presale – which gave select fans early access to tickets if they pre-ordered Taylor’s album on her web store last year – the registered fan sale takes place next week.
A few weeks back when the shows were announced, fans had to register their interest for the dates they wanted to attend, whether it be in London, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Cardiff, or Dublin.
Then, by midnight tonight, they will find out if they have been successful, and therefore given a unique access code to the sales, or if they have been waitlisted.
Any fans who have been waitlisted cannot buy tickets at this time, as your conventional ‘general sale’ is not taking place – unless it happens nearer to the show dates as it did in the US.
All hope is not lost, though, as waitlisted fans might still get a chance to buy Eras Tour tickets later down the line. But for now, they simply must await more info.
Understandably, it’s been a nervy time for Taylor fans, especially given the chaos of the American ticket sales earlier this year.
So when registration and waitlist emails started flooding in, Swifties were keen to share their reactions and find out who was in the same boat as them.
Those who have been waitlisted have shared their devastation – and there are a lot.
‘Everybody raise your hand if you’ve been waitlisted for Taylor swift… feel like I’m being punished’, tweeted one gutted fan.
‘No way I waited WEEKS to find out if I can get tickets for taylor swift for the UK dates to find out im waitlisted I’m actually going to cry’, tweeted another.
‘Waitlisted for tickets when people I know, who didn’t even like her music a year ago have gotten tickets. Screaming crying throwing up. Life is acc over’, one added.
Those who managed to bag tickets during the Midnights pre-sale were full of gratitude as the number of Swifties waitlisted became overwhelming.
‘waitlisted for 2 shows already, omg so glad i got all my tickets on presale. midnights presale, you will ALWAYS be famous’, one Swiftie tweeted.
There were some celebrations, however, as a select number of fans received good news in their email inboxes.
Alas, it looks like many will have to sit tight and hope that another opportunity to secure tickets arises in the near future.
One thing’s for sure, and it’s that resale tickets are already skyrocketing in value thanks to scalpers.
It’s even got to the point where MPs are discussing the resale carnage in the House of Commons!
Kevin Brennan – the MP for Cardiff West – explained this week that his daughter is a die-hard Taylor fan and called for action over ticket scalpers.
His concerns come after platforms such as Viagogo were listing resale tickets for over £6,000.
