The bestselling books in Canada for the week ending July 12

Trending

The top two bestselling non-fiction titles sold in Canada last week are essentially coffee table books, and I can’t recall that happening in recent years.

The first is “Beyond the Story: 10-Year Record of BTS.” It is a commemorative volume marking the 10th anniversary of the first album by BTS, the spectacularly popular seven-member Korean boy group. BTS does not stand for Beyond the Story but Bangtan Sonyeondan, which translates as Bulletproof Boy Scouts. Author Myeongseok Kang is a chronicler of Korean pop culture; Anton Hur provided the English translation. (Thank God for Wikipedia and Amazon, my sole sources for the foregoing information.)

Next is “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse: The Art of the Movie,” a tie-in to Sony’s animated sequel to 2018’s “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” which won an Oscar. The film is currently playing in local theatres and streaming for home audiences.

The big release this week in Canadian fiction is “The Librarianist,” a new novel by Patrick deWitt, which is getting enthusiastic reviews everywhere. It debuts at No. 6. (The book is on the Canadian list because deWitt was born on Vancouver Island but was largely raised in California and now lives in Oregon. He is an American citizen.)
