Car experts are urging motorists to make sure that their washer fluid is topped up, as they could be putting themselves and other road users at serious risk.

The washer fluid needs to be filled up to the correct level as it is used to keep the windscreen free from dirt and grime so that you can see the road ahead clearly.

If your windscreen is dirty or obscured, it can negatively impact your vision and other road users.

If you can’t see the road ahead, you could be fined under the Highway Code due to ‘failure to have proper control of vehicle or full view of the road and traffic ahead’.

And this can lead to a £1,000 fine and three points on your licence.

Car experts at ScreenWashing.com said: “It’s recommended that you check the screen washer fluid levels in your car at least once a month, topping up if necessary.

“If the container is below a quarter empty, top it up so you can be sure you have enough the next time you need to use your windscreen wipers.

“During periods where you’re driving more regularly, you’ll likely be using your wipers more often, so you’ll get through more washer fluid than the rest of the year.

“During such times, checking every couple of weeks will ensure you don’t run out.”

This comes after a driving expert revealed how a little-known parking loophole could help you avoid a hefty fine – and potentially save you hundreds.

Plus, drivers were warned that parking under a tree could end up costing them £1,000 fine.
