Janey Godley gives update on incurable cancer as celebrity pals send support

Janey Godley took to Twitter to tells fans that her latest cancer screening had come back clear.

On Tuesday evening, the comedian tweeted: “My cancer scan came back clear. My breast screening came back clear.

“I will never be cured of ovarian cancer but I will continue to be treated for it thanks Scottish NHS and @Beatson_Charity.”

The 62-year-old went on to say she was now off to “get a glass of champagne”.

Janey accompanied her post with a picture of herself smiling outdoors following the good news.

Many of her 292,000 followers were quick to comment on her update.

Lorraine Kelly wrote: “Great news @JaneyGodley- enjoy that bubbly.”

Nigella Lawson commented: “This is the best news!”

“Janey, I love this news! Our world is so much brighter every day you are in it. Hope you’re having the best evening xx,” Scott Matthewman added.

The Glasgow native was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in November 2021 after suffering from stomach pain, frequent urination, bloating and a sore back.

She was later told she had stage three ovarian cancer following a hysterectomy.

At the time, she wrote on social media that her diagnosis had shocked her and her loved ones.

Janey explained: “It’s been quite a shock. It’s been quite a shock to all of us. My husband and Ashley (her daughter) are back at home and they are just processing all this information too.

“There are people watching this who live for years with treatable cancers and that’s what I’m hoping to do as well.

“I’d like to say I’m brave and I’m strong but I’m really really vulnerable and frightened as well because that’s what this kind of news does to people, but I’m also optimistic.

“I’m going to get chemotherapy, and then whatever treatment comes after this.”

In June last year, the comedian was told she was cancer-free however was then told it had returned in December.

Speaking to fans at the time, she said: “My recent scan and my blood tests showed that my cancer marker went up.

“There’s still a bit of disease in my abdomen.”

Following the news, Janey underwent chemotherapy and was later told her cancer is treatable but not curable.

Staying strong however, the stand-up told fans she was still going to do her UK tour.

In a video to fans, she said: “I think it’s fair and honest to say it might be the last time you see me live on stage.

“I’m hoping it’s not, but I think it’s a fair estimation.”
