Tom Cruise shuts down rumour co-stars ‘can’t look him in the eye’ on film set

In a new interview, Simon Pegg, 53, said he’s managed to get to the bottom of all the myths about his Mission Impossible co-star Tom Cruise.

It comes after the film’s director Chris McQuarrie, 54, said he asked Tom what the weirdest myth he had heard about himself was, when they first met.

The actor is said to have laughed as he told him it was untrue that people on set “were not allowed to look me in the eye”.

According to The Sunday Times, the 61-year-old film star is actually known to have dance-offs with the cast and crew.

In an interview with the publication, Simon said: “I’ve been able to hack my way through all the bizarre mythology that surrounds him.

“On one side he’s Tom Cruise, this enigmatic film star everyone wants to know about. And on the other he’s just a guy. I like being normal with him.”

Actress Hayley Atwell has also said the actor is not a snob despite what people may think.

She added to the publication: “He doesn’t want to make movies now to punish an audience.

“He doesn’t want films with the message that if you do not understand this you’re not smart.

“I can tell when I watch some movies that the director has made it for themselves. I don’t feel involved or I think, ‘Am I stupid?’ Tom’s not a snob.”

Rebecca Ferguson went on to say it was Tom who inspired her to do some of her stunts, despite there being a stunt double on set.

Back in 2020, Tom hit the headlines after a leaked audio clip saw him yelling at crew over Covid protocols.

Filming for the latest movie began during the pandemic, meaning social distancing measures were in place and masks were worn.

In the clip, he could be heard shouting: “If I see you do it again you’re f***ing gone,” to crew members who allegedly broke Covid rules.

When asked about the encounter by Empire Magazine, he said he didn’t shout at the “entire crew” but to a selected few when the others weren’t on set.

He added that there was “a lot at stake at that point” and it was a “very emotional” time for them.

Simon echoed his words in the new interview and claimed his co-star feared the virus could wipe cinema off the earth at the time.

Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One is out in Cinemas now.
