Icy Sheens answer highlights Tigers contract woes
A comment from Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens has indicated that all is not well between he and the club’s head of recruitment Scott Fulton after his side’s loss to Cronulla on Thursday night.
Speculation about the pair’s relationship has been rife since Fulton was hired earlier this year without the consultation of both Sheens and assistant Benji Marshall.
Centre Tommy Talau scored one of the Tigers’ two tries in the loss to the Sharks, with the performance coming amid reports he could be the latest player on his way out the door.

When asked about Talau’s contract status after the game, Sheens’ answer said it all.
“No I know nothing about what is going on there at the moment,” Sheens said.
“There has been talk, but there has been nothing said to me anyway.”
Fulton’s appointment in May raised eyebrows due to the fact that he replaced Warren McDonnell in the role, despite McDonnell being a prerequisite for Sheens accepting the job as the Tigers’ director of rugby league in 2021.
“I do not anticipate there will be any concerns or issues with what is a wonderful addition to our football department despite the efforts of some to suggest that there may be,” Tigers chairman Lee Hagipantelis said when announcing Fulton’s appointment earlier this year.

“Everyone that is employed by the Wests Tigers is employed for the sole purpose of furthering the interest of the Wests Tigers only. This was not a situation of our making in that the opportunity was presented to the board.
“The board fully explored the opportunity and made the decision that the engagement of Scott would be in the best interest of the Wests Tigers. He’s employed in addition to our current resources and we think he will greatly benefit our recruitment program.”
