$30,000 to the Connor Bedard show: Resale tickets for Canada’s world junior final reach eye-popping prices
Watching Canada go for gold at the world junior championships is a dream opportunity for any Canadian hockey fan — a very expensive dream.
Led by record-setting superstar Connor Bedard, Team Canada takes on Czechia on Thursday at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax for the gold medal game. But snatching a ticket for one of the 11,000-plus seats inside the arena to watch the game won’t come cheap.
On ticket resale site StubHub, tickets for the game were listed anywhere from $1,000 to $30,000. By mid-morning Thursday, the site was warning visitors that less than four per cent of total tickets to the venue were remaining.
Prices were fluctuating throughout the day; at some point one seat with an unrestricted view showed a price of $1,150,008.
StubHub did not confirm if any ticket has actually sold for tens of thousands of dollar and would not provide any details on how much tickets to this game have actually been selling for.
“We do not have access to sale history in regards to price estimates or what tickets have previously sold for other than what is currently listed on our site,” a message from StubHub Support said. “Since we are a live marketplace, tickets can be listed at any time.”
The resale site sold tickets to the semifinal game between Canada and the United States for between $800 and $6,000.
The bronze medal game between the U.S. and Sweden, which takes place four hours before the gold medal game, had many tickets still available on StubHub from $53 to $467.
The final between Canada and Czechia is a rematch of the opening game of the tournament, which the Czechs won 5-2. Czechia beat Sweden 2-1 in overtime to advance to the gold medal game.
The game starts at 6:30 p.m. ET.
