19.8k score 100 percentile in CUET, highest in English, Political Science – Times of India

NEW DELHI: A total of 19,865 candidates scored 100 percentile across 30 subjects in the Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate (CUET-UG) 2022. English had the highest number of 100-percentilers at 8,236, followed by Political Science (2,065) and Business Studies (1,669). As per the latest indications, the results were likely to be declared early Friday morning by the National Testing Agency, after the agency failed to meet its own deadline of 10 pm, Thursday.
The other subjects which recorded over 1,000 candidates with 100 percentile were Biology, Economics and Psychology, indicating that the cutoffs for college admissions in these six subjects are likely to be high. A total of 14,90,293 candidates had registered for the tests, out of which 9,68,202 (60%) had appeared.
Undergraduate admissions across 90 participating universities will be based on the CUET-UG results. Other subjects with a high number of 100 percentilers were Hindi (875), Accountancy (422), Geography (326), History (893) and Sociology (261).
Initially, all phases of the CUET-UG were scheduled to conclude on August 20. However, the exam was further deferred and split into six phases due to several glitches. The exam was conducted from July 15 to August 30 spread across 20 days and 38 slots. The computer-based tests were held across 489 examination centres located in 259 cities across India and nine cities for 27 subjects in different combinations which involved 2,219 question papers in 13 mediums.
The debut edition of the exam faced its share of problems as well with technical glitches. The tests were postponed in close to 60 centres, a majority of these in Delhi-NCR.
NTA released the provisional answer key from September 8 to 10, 2022 for challenges which were then placed before subject experts for verification. The results are to be announced based on the final answer keys.
No marks are being given. Instead candidates are being assigned a percentile for each subject they opted for on the basis of their score in that paper, which was “normalised” to reflect their performance in that subject across all sessions in which that examination was conducted. The results will have a single percentile series for each paper, through what is called the equipercentile method. This is expected to take care of differences in difficulty levels across the tests, according to the evaluation process.
A committee headed by a senior professor from Indian Statistical Institution, Delhi, and comprising senior professors from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and University of Delhi had detailed deliberations to arrive at the methodology.
While CUET-UG registered an overall attendance of 60%, Delhi recorded the highest attendance with nearly 80% while states from the northeast region, especially the hill states, registered around 35% attendance. CUET-UG candidates have applied for 54,555 unique combinations of subjects for admissions in 90 (44 central, 12 state, 11 deemed and 19 private) universities.
