Zoe Ball’s ex Norman Cook on ‘traumatic’ period after marriage breakdown
Zoe Ball and Norman Cook ended their 18-year relationship in September 2017 and the DJ, otherwise known as Fatboy Slim, admitted he endured a “traumatic” year following their split.
The pair decided to part ways and the hitmaker said at the time that it was his music which allowed him to cope with the breakup.
“My music and shows have always been about escapism, for people to forget what’s wrong in their life,” he told the Daily Star in 2017.
“I’ve done it for 30 years but, because my life was happy, I was providing that escapism for the crowds. And now they’re providing that escapism for me.”
He added: “Having hit a traumatic year, for those two hours when I’m on stage, I forget all my worries and I feel like I can escape.”
The record producer also revealed that the breakdown of his marriage had forced him to focus more on his music.
Norman commented: “A lot of people have been telling me, ‘You’re on fire in your shows! The worse your personal life gets, the better your DJing gets.’
“It’s because I’m letting off steam. I’ve made three new Fatboy Slim songs lately, and that’s 300 per cent more than I’d made in a few years.”
He added: “Because of my marital situation, I have a lot more time on my hands. Practically, I see less of the kids than I used to, so I have more time to make music.”
Zoe Ball, 52, and her former husband Norman Cook, 59, married in 1999.
The married couple welcomed two children together, son Woody Cook, 22, and daughter Nelly, 12.
Although they split in January 2003, they got back together three months later.
In September 2016, the pair announced their separation after 18 years of marriage.
In an emotional tweet, the pair expressed their sadness at the separation saying that they had “come to the end of our rainbow”.
The former couple recently reunited for a candid chat on Zoe Ball’s Breakfast Show ahead of Fatboy Slim’s DJ set at Glastonbury last month.
