Zayn Malik has popped his head back into public life with a rare, and somewhat cryptic, message for his fans after a long absence.

The former One Direction star, who generally keeps himself to himself on social media, posted a message on Twitter this weekend, thanking his fans for their support.

However, his out-of-the-blue message came without explanation, meaning many fans were left scratching their heads at what it all meant.

Zayn, 30, tweeted: ‘I would like to say thank you to everyone that has supported me throughout this amazing journey, especially to my fans who I owe my life to.’

‘Love and adore you and see everything you do for me.’

Apart from a one-off tweet about UFC last week, Zayn hasn’t posted directly on Twitter to fans in nearly six months, although in April he did show off his new barnet on Instagram.

Zayn kept fans on their toes with his meaningful yet slightly cryptic tweet

Some fans took his message as a bit of a public goodbye or a hint at stepping away from the music life.

Slightly panicked at the post, one fan replied quickly: ‘I love u Z ,don’t become a farmer yet, I want more album!! I miss you Z.’

‘Honestly, I don’t know how to take it Z. it’s so confusing,’ another admitted. ‘I honestly hope you’re just thankful for the support and are thinking of releasing your stuff soon. if not, it’s okay the music industry was never your high priority and we’ll love and support you forever!’

Another commented in relation to Zayn’s battle with anxiety, writing to him that it ‘doesn’t define you’.

‘You have the strength to handle it and not let it handle you. Everything is going to be alright in the end and if it’s not all alright then it’s not the end. Remember to take care of yourself  love you so much.’

The British star has maintained a relatively low profile in recent years, particularly after he and his ex-girlfriend Gigi Hadid split in October 2021.

The pair – who share a two-year-old daughter – parted ways after the model’s mother, Yolanda Hadid, accused him of striking her.

Zayn later entered a no-contest plea relating to four charges of harassment and was sentenced to a year of probation and to complete an anger management course.

The former X Factor dropped his third solo studio album, Nobody Is Listening, back in January 2021.

However, fans of One Direction have been heavily speculating of late that the band, formed in 2010 and comprised of Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan, may be on the verge of a much longed-for reunion, with many hoping that Zayn – who quit the group in 2015 before they called time on 1D – may also be back for another round.

Liam recently set tongues wagging when he revealed while speaking ringside at the KSI v Joe Fournier fight that a new group chat has been created with the former bandmembers.

Interviewer Derek Chisora with Delicious TV then told the camera: ‘1D is back soon!’

Notably, Liam didn’t give a straight-out denial, simply shrugging, which of course sent Directioners into a state of excited panic.

Watch this space, 1D fans.
