WWE star Cody Rhodes ‘suffers broken arm’ days before Brock Lesnar fight
Cody Rhodes appeared to suffer a broken arm at the hands of Brock Lesnar on WWE Raw.
Last night’s episode continued to build the intense storyline rivalry between the American Nightmare and the Beast Incarnate ahead of their billed fight at Night of Champions on Saturday (May 27) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The evening kicked off with a bang as Brock took out Cody as soon as the show went on air, targeting his opponent with a sneak attack backstage.
Focusing on the arm with a Kimura Lock, the former world champion caused further damage by slamming a metal canister onto the limb, leaving his rival writhing in pain.
Later in the night, Brock came out and claimed Cody wouldn’t be able to compete at Night of Champions due to the injury he suffered at the top of the show.
Instead, he issued an open challenge to face him this weekend, only for Cody to answer the call and head down to the ring with his arm iced up in a sling.
He ripped off the support and threw it down, ignoring the pleas of WWE official Adam Pearce as he tried to take the fight to Brock in what ended up being a misguided display of courage.
He was quickly taken down by the legendary heavyweight, who locked in the Kimura and appeared to snap Cody’s arm, causing him to spend much of the rest of the show in the trainer’s room.
His status for the premium live event remained unclear, and just before Monday Night Raw went off air he in the locker room packing up to leave the arena when WWE boss Triple H joined him.
In what was the first time they’ve appeared together on screen, the company’s chief content officer told Cody that while no one could ever question his toughness and courage – particular after his display inside Hell In A Cell last year – he had nothing to prove.
He added that he could tell the arm was broken just by looking at it, but Cody vowed to be at Night of Champions regardless of any injury, setting the stage for another gutsy performance.
WWE Night of Champions airs Saturday, May 27 at 6pm on the WWE Network.
