WWE legend Mick Foley has backed Jon Moxley to come back ‘better than ever’ as he enters an inpatient alcohol treatment program.

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) boss Tony Khan confirmed the wrestler – who appeared as Dean Ambrose for WWE before joining the rival promotion in April 2019 – is getting help for his personal issues.

Leading tributes to the star, Foley tweeted: ‘Wishing Jon the very best. A bold and brave decision – and I know he’ll be back and better than ever. Mox has a heck of a support system, with great fans, and an amazing wife.’

A number of other wrestlers have taken to social media to send their best wishes to the former world champion, who became a dad for the first time over summer when his wife Renee Paquette gave birth to their daughter Nora.

AEW’s Cash Wheeler wrote: ‘More respect than ever for Jon.’

His co-star Thunder Rosa tweeted: ‘We all love you and support you Mox! This is a difficult journey but we are here for you and Renee!’

And AEW commentator Taz said: ‘I have no doubt that Mox will succeed in his battle. Much respect Jon.’

Wrestling legend Ricky Morton wrote: ‘We stand with you, my friend. #Mox’

Joey Janela said: ‘I consider Jon a good friend of mine, generally a wonderful dude! Some of the stuff he’s done for others on the low is the stuff of legend and I hope to see him again soon! All the love to him and his family.’

WWE Hall of Famer Sean ‘X-Pac’ Waltman joined in the tributes, sending ‘love to The Moxley Family’, while WWE NXT 2.0 star Cora Jade tweeted: ‘Best wishes to @JonMoxley!’

Tony Khan revealed the news on Tuesday night (November 2), as he wrote: ‘Jon Moxley has allowed me to share with you that he is entering an inpatient alcohol treatment program.

‘Jon is a beloved member of the AEW family. We all stand with him and Renee, and all of his family and friends, as he shifts his focus to recovery. Jon is making a very brave choice to get help, and we’re embracing his choice and supporting him however we can.

‘I’m proud to call Jon a friend, and like many of you, I’m also a fan of Mox and look forward to a time in the future when he is eventually ready to return to the ring.

‘Until then, thank you for supporting Jon and respecting his privacy at this time.’
