THE WORLD’S first flying bike inspired by Star Wars hovercrafts could be yours, but it won’t come cheap.
The 12-foot-long bike can stay in the air for 40 minutes and reach speeds of up to 62mph.
The XTURISMO hoverbike was developed by the Japanese startup AERWINS Technologies.
And according to their website, it was inspired by Star Wars and is “a manifestation of the dream air mobility.”
It operates with two large central rotors powered by a 228-hp gas-powered Kawasaki motor.
The official description reads: “Brining science fiction to life: Imagine a world where humans have free reign over the skies. Surely, life would be freer.
“Expand your ideas about transport, experience the world like never before Pioneer the next generation of transport.”
The company said the bike could be used for practical applications like disaster relief, search and rescue missions.
The flying bike is already on sale in Japan, and the first delivery was officially made on December 16, 2022.
But it’s currently limited to flying over race tracks.
The bike made its United States debut in September 2022 at the Detroit Auto Show, where some attendees were able to take the bike for a test drive, including the co-chair of the auto show, Thad Szott.
Thad Szott told Euronews: “I mean, it’s awesome! Of course, you have a little apprehension, but I was just so amped.
“I literally had goosebumps and felt like a little kid.”
The flying bike will be on sale in the US later this year for £461,000.
And AERWINS hopes to lower the cost to £42,169 for a smaller electric model by 2025.
