Woman who ‘looks like teenager’ shocks internet with real age

A woman who “looks like a teenager” has left the internet floored after revealing her real age – along with the tip she swears by for “young skin”.

A woman who regularly leaves people shocked when she tells them her real age has shared the skincare tips she credits for her youthful appearance.

Isabelle Lux, 30, says she is regularly mistaken for being younger than she is and as a result, she’s often asked the secrets to her “youthful” skin.

As a result, the beauty lover from New York – who is not a professional skincare expert – decided to share a TikTok video revealing her favourite skincare tricks. And it quickly clocked up hundreds of thousands of views.

In the clip, Isabelle – who runs a beauty blog called Lux Guide – said she swears by “slugging”, crediting it for keeping her skin looking “young”.

This is a technique that originates from South Korea where users apply a petroleum-based product to their faces after finishing a skincare routine in a bid to lock in the ingredients and trap in moisture.

While it has been around for many years, it recently blew up on TikTok, and Isabelle said it really works.

“I’ve been doing it for 15 years before I realised there was a word for it,” she said.

While many people use vaseline for it as it is a petroleum-based product, Isabelle uses a product called Egyptian Magic, $41.99, which you can buy on Adore Beauty in Australia.

She also shared two other tips, including tapping products into the skin around the eye area rather than rubbing them in.

“It’s not only going to deliver the product to a specific area, but it is also going to lift your whole cheekbone as it depuffs the area,” she said.

Another of her favourite tricks is to sleep with a silk eye mask every night, claiming the habit has totally transformed her eyes and banished fine lines.

She said since using a silk eye mask in her daily routine, the fine lines have completely disappeared.

The video – which has been viewed almost 700,000 times – clearly resonated, with many thanking Isabelle for the advice.

Others were quick to point out they still struggled to believe the skincare enthusiast was 30.

“You literally look 21. So implementing all of these tonight,” one wrote.

“First of all I legit thought you were a teenager. Second of all, I adore your tinsel hair!” another claimed.

While one woman said: “No way. I still don’t think you’re 30!”

Some pointed out “slugging” might not be for everyone as petroleum is a known irritant for those with acne-prone skin.

Petroleum has also been the centre of controversy in recent years after decades spent as a staple in beauty cabinets across the world.

Issues arose over the safety of the common ingredient after it was claimed the manufacturing process creates polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).

This is an issue because studies show a link between exposure to PAHs and breast cancer.

However multiple certified dermatologists have assured consumers “refined petroleum” in skincare is completely safe, urging people to check the labels on products before buying.
