Wolverine’s Weekly Series Promise to Usher in the X-Men’s Second Krakoan Age

X Lives of Wolverine and X Deaths of Wolverine usher in the Second Krakoan Age of X-Men with a weekly storyline that explores Logan’s history.

Wolverine’s past will lead to the the Second Krakoan Age of X-Men in a pair of upcoming miniseries.

Originally teased last month, the complicated history of Logan will be on full display in the dual five-issue miniseries X Lives of Wolverine and X Deaths of Wolverine. The two books will come out on alternating weeks, telling their own narratives that intertwine for a larger whole, similar to House of X and Powers of X. For these, Wolverine and X-Force writer Benjamin Percy will be joined by Marvel Stormbreaker Joshua Cassara in X Lives of Wolverine and artist Federico Vicenti in X Deaths of Wolverine. Together, these titles will help usher in the Second Krakoan Age of X-Men, after the departure of writer Jonathan Hickman. Wolverine artist Adam Kubert will provide covers for both series.

This new epic begins on Jan. 5, 2022, and will shine a light on Logan’s past in order to change the future of mutantkind. To prevent the death of a key historical figure, Wolverine will have to travel through time and explore the tragedies that made him who he is. Speaking on the series, Percy said, “We’re creating a definitive platform that channels all the Wolverine stories that came before, while shredding our way into a wild future.”

Alongside these two books, Marvel will also be releasing a new Sabretooth series on Jan. 5, 2022 by writer Victor LaValle, artist Leonard Kirk and colorist Rain Beredo. This will follow up on the life of Victor Creed for the first time since he was exiled by the X-Men in 2019. LaValle promises that the story is “not what you expect!”

While X Lives of Wolverine and X Deaths of Wolverine are still months away, readers can begin searching through their back issues to see how the story will play out. In recent months, Wolverine chased after the mutant Solem,  uncovered the secret behind the Marauder’s disappearance, and died numerous times at the hands of Orchis. Still, Percy wants this to be “the greatest Wolverine story ever told.” He emphasized “I’m not trying to belittle previous creators when I say that. The opposite. I’m trying to honor them. When we reveal the expansive scope — and legacy elements — of the project, you’ll understand what I mean.”
