‘Will have a go’ – Oxford boss makes Addicks promotion battle claim

OXFORD boss Karl Robinson is expecting League One to be a competitive league next season.

The Oxford manager believes that will be the case based on the level of teams who will be battling for promotion to the Championship during the 2022-23 campaign.

With the likes of Derby County, Barnsley and Peterborough dropping down into the division as well as Wycombe there are plenty of teams who will want to be on the way out of League One.

Wycombe were very recently in the Championship having been relegated to League One last season.

The Oxford boss, however, still sees other clubs in the league with a chance for promotion, such as Ipswich, Portsmouth, Bolton and the Addicks.

Robinson told the Oxford Mail: ‘The league’s going to be better.

“Ipswich, Charlton, Portsmouth and Bolton will have a go.

“Three of that four (who reached the play-offs) are still going to be in this league with Derby County, Barnsley and Peterborough coming down (from the Championship).

“I only foresee it getting harder to try to stay in the top ten and that’s something we’ve got to be better at as well.”

Charlton underdelivered last season on a whole as they had to settle for a 13th place finish. The aims for the club will be higher next season as they look to appoint a manager who can get the club back into the Championship.
