Why you should visit the seaside town voted ‘worst for a weekend stay’

THE UK seaside town once voted the worst for a weekend stay has received some praise online.

There are plenty of great seaside towns in the country for those looking for a staycation – but apparently even the lesser-appreciated ones are also worth a visit.

In a list published by consumer experts Which? last year, Hastings was the least favourite town to visit among Brits.

The score was based on feedback from visitors, who were rating locations on a number of categories including food and drink, accommodation, and cultural sights.

According to Sussex Live, the town received “a ‘food and drink’ score of two out of five, an ‘accommodation’ score of three out of five, and a ‘cultural sights’ score of three out of five”.

They say “the town was also rated two for ‘ease of getting around’, two for ‘value for money’, and three for ‘lack of crowds’”.

However, Tiktioker Sali Mamutchadze (@sali_mamutchadze) disagreed entirely with the Which? survey, describing the town as “underrated” and “so pretty”.

In a video she shared, she said that Hastings was “so worth a visit” as she showed off her favourite spots in the town.

Her recommendations included the pier, the old town and the funicular among several others.

They’re favourites among other visitors too, with the pier and the old town featuring on the list of things to do in the town on TripAdvisor.

In fact, the old town was voted number one, with an overall rating of 4/5 from more than 2,700 reviews.

One person wrote: “The most amazing shops, restaurants and bars.
Original items and fantastic gifts. Leave extra time to explore as there is so much to see.”

Following the old town in second and third spots were the fisherman’s museum and the shipwreck museum.

Hastings country park and Alexandra park completed the town’s top five attractions.

Other people were delighted to see Sali giving Hastings some love and shared some of their own appreciation for it too.

One commented: “My home town, thank you for making it look beautiful.”

Another said: “Hence i moved from London here… Love it.”

A third added: “We’ve been and we loved it.”

It takes as little as an hour and a half to get to Hastings by train from London and a night in a hotel can be found from £25pp per night.

Camping pitches near to the town start from £20 per night, for a four person pitch.

Meanwhile, this seaside town in the UK is also home to dolphins, whales and puffins, as well as amazing castles.

And these are some of the most tranquil staycation spots in the country.
