‘Why film this’: Man’s homeless stunt backfires

A TikToker has come under fire for filming his act of goodwill, with users on the platform questioning why he felt the “need to record this stuff”.

The user, who posts under the username @help_others10, shared the now-viral clip of him interacting with a homeless man, and offering to buy the man lunch.

“I saw this man again and I told him, ‘What do you want for lunch?’ And he said, ‘I want KFC with a big drink’, he was explaining to me what he wanted,” the man said in a voiceover.

“I told him give me one second and I will be back. I quickly went to get food. I was excited to see his reaction. I ran to him to see his reaction. He knew I was filming everything and he watched the video and said ‘that’s fine if you want to post it’. Look how happy he looks.”

While dozens of people acknowledged the kind act, saying he was “very kind” and urging others to “always help homeless people”, some users didn’t say it quite in the same way.

“I don’t understand why you need to record this stuff. Do it from the heart, we know there is good people left,” one man commented.

“Seriously! Charity is not about receiving recognition from others,” wrote another.

“I understand the kind gesture but you don’t need to prove to anyone that you are helping the homeless with your camera, do it from the heart,” agreed a third person.

“But would you do it without the camera?” asked another.

But others defended the man for filming the interaction, saying that “people recording these are showing other people how to show love”.

“[He filmed it] to encourage other people to [do the same],” wrote one woman.

“I think it’s a good reminder actually to do the same.”

“You are showing us how to live!” commented another.
