Wheeler Dealers host Mike Brewer has revealed fresh details about their stolen classic Ford Fiesta Mk1, admitting the experience has been like “losing a child”.
Mr Brewer revealed restoring the historic model was one of his “proudest ever achievements” with just four models left in the entire country.
Mike and Marc Priestely, nicknamed Elvis, spent hours bringing the car back to life and had just completed the final touches before it was taken back in June.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, he said: “The truth is for me and Elvis this is a bit raw. I can’t think of another Wheeler Dealers car that both of us dedicated so much love, care and attention to.
“It was one of our proudest ever achievements, it’s a small little car but we realised just how important this car was when we found out there was only four registered in the UK.”
The duo decided to restore a Fiesta to pay homage to the ionic brand after Ford confirmed it would discontinue the range.
Mike negotiated the original seller down from his £5,000 asking price to secure the iconic model for just £4,000.
Work immediately started on upgrading the model with Marc getting to work on one of the shows biggest restorations to date.
The pair spent a staggering £11,200 on the works which included completely updating the bodywork, repairing the engine and fitting new water and oil pumps.
The episode aired last Monday evening with the duo admitting there have been no new leads since.
But, they still hold out hope that someone might share new details about the car’s location after seeing the swell of support from fans of the series.
Mike told Express.co.uk: “There were times when Elvis was working at 10-11pm at night on the bodywork, it was hideous.
“There were times I was driving the length and breadth of the country to try and find the bits that put this car back together. It was a big, big task for us. It was a massive task.
“So to find out the car was stolen the morning we woke up to film it at a Ford Fiesta meeting, it really really hurt. And it was incredibly raw.
“Still today even though the show has aired, and we’ve had millions of people all over the world say we’ve watched the show, they thought it was fantastic and how sad the end was, we still have no answer. We have still not found the car.
“I was really hoping that after the show aired someone might own up to it or tell us where it is.
“It’s not so much as we want to sell the car and make a profit out of it, we don’t, there’s only four, we want to rescue it.
“If we got that car back I’m pretty sure we would mount it on a plinth somewhere in the Wheeler Dealer workshop and it would stay with us forever because it’s become an important part of our family.
“It’s like losing a child. It really hurt.”
Wheeler Dealers airs on Quest and Discovery+ every Monday at 9pm.
