West Bengal police registers suo moto FIR against Suvendu Adhikari

At a time when Pegasus has caused a furore in the political circles in India, the West Bengal Police registered a suo moto FIR against Leader of Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari for threatening to transfer Superintendent of Police (SP)- East Midnapore to Baramulla if he listens to Trinamool, claiming that he has call recordings of the SP and other police personnel.

Police has charged him with the National Disaster Management Act as he violated COVID protocol and addressed a public meeting with more than 50 people in Tamluk and prevented police from performing its duty. Several sections, including 120 B that is criminal conspiracy, and Sections under Disaster Management act have been invoked against him.

Suvendu made these comments during a deputation programme in Tamluk and has violated COVID protocols by addressing a public rally with a huge number of party workers.

“I have call recordings of all the police personnel and the SP. Please remember that you are a central cadre officer and do not act in a way that you have to land in Kashmir’s Anantnag or Baramulla,” Suvendu Adhikari said, threatening Superintendent of Police (SP)- East Midnapore Amarnath Dey.

Apart from threatening the police officials, Suvendu also threatened the ruling party. “If you (Trinamool) have power in the state, we are also in power at the Centre,” Suvendu claimed, adding that “all those who call you (SP) from “Bhaipo’s (Abhisek) office, we have all the call records.”

Amarnath De, SP East Midnapore said, “Suvendu has said that he has call records of the police officials. It is against law. He has also violated COVID protocol by addressing a public rally with more than 50 people and prevented the government officials to do their duty. We have charged him under some of these sections

“In a way by making such comments, Suvendu confirmed the allegations of snooping against the BJP, who have tapped the phones of the Trinamool Congress leaders,” party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said.

Ghosh said investigations should be started against Suvendu as he has also claimed to have call records of Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhisek Banerjee.
