Watch Mbappe roast Austria with crazy pace to rescue point and deny Rangnick win

New Austria boss Ralf Rangnick could only watch on in frustration as Christopher Nkunku’s pass set Mbappe through on goal to deny the Manchester United flop a famous win.

The hitman turned on the afterburners as he zipped away from the likes of David Alaba before firing home with a sharp finish.

The result rescued a point for World Cup winner Didier Deschamps.

But France remain without a win in three Nations League matches.

They first lost 2-1 to Denmark before conceding a late equaliser against Croatia on Monday.

Austria took the lead after 37 minutes through Andreas Weimann, who tapped in from close range after a counter attack.

But Mbappe, who came on with half an hour remaining, had other ideas with his equaliser seven minutes from time.

And the striker almost won it for France in the dying moments when his shot was deflected by Austria’s goalie onto the bar.

Mbappe said: “That’s not what we came for but we’ll take that point and try to win on Monday.

“I’m not 100% fit but I’ll play if I have to. It’s the last match before the holidays so we can push it a little bit.”

Boss Deschamps added: “I’m disappointed that we didn’t score more with all the chances we had.

“Sometimes we score more goals with less opportunities but I’m not worried. I’ve had to do with minor injuries and fatigue.”

France end their international campaign with a second game against Croatia on Monday.

Their final Nations League matches will take place in September.

And France’s World Cup adventure in Qatar kicks off on November 22 against either Australia or Peru, who also play on Monday.
