Cooper shared a copy of his denied application, in which part of the reason he was refused citizenship was for not meeting the following requirement: “Person engaging in activities of benefit to Australia”.

Along with 70 caps for Australia as part of a nine-year career as a Wallaby that included two Rugby World Cups, Cooper also played for the Queensland Reds and Melbourne Rebels in Super Rugby.

“Awkward moment Australian Government refuse your citizenship application (again). ” he tweeted.

“Wearing the green and gold 70 times apparently is not enough these days…”

The 33-year-old back in 2016 was unable to represent Australia’s Olympic sevens team at the Rio Games due to not having citizenship.
