Voss tests positive to COVID-19 after Blues win

The AFL has been dealt a fresh COVID-19 curveball with Carlton coach Michael Voss testing positive to the virus.

Voss’ positive test was confirmed after his side’s stirring 25-point win over Richmond at the MCG in its season-opener on Thursday night.

The 46-year-old will be joined in isolation by two members of the club’s football department as well as midfielder Jack Martin, who played against the Tigers.

With Voss in the AFL’s health and safety protocols, his assistant Ash Hansen will coach the Blues next week against the Western Bulldogs.

“Importantly, Michael, Jack and our staff are feeling well, which is the number one priority here obviously and they will now isolate for the required periods of time. All had tested negative prior to interacting with the football program, however by today all four had returned a positive result,” Carlton’s Head of Football, Brad Lloyd, said in a statement.

“The impact of COVID-19 is still clearly a reality that we remain mindful of, so we will make the necessary adjustments, adapt and remain focused on our goal for the next week – which is preparing for a strong performance next Thursday night.”

According to the Blues, the rest of the club’s football department staff and players have returned negative results after undergoing testing today.

Carlton is currently scheduled to face the Bulldogs next Thursday night at Marvel Stadium.
