Volkanovski’s perfect response to McGregor sledge

UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski fired back at Conor McGregor after a feisty tweet from the Irishman attacking the Aussie.

Volkanovski defended his title with a unanimous decision victory over a swollen and bloody Brian Ortega at UFC 266.

Volkanovski prevails in brutal featherweight clash

In the absorbing fight that included a wild third round where both men had the chance to end the fight, Volkanovski (23-1) came out on top on the scorecards — 49-46, 50-45 and 50-44 — to post his 20th consecutive victory.

McGregor immediately took to social media to mock Volkanovski.

“I’d kick this volovski head off like it was a rugby ball I was kicking. 5’4! And full of muscle! Hahahahaha little fart he is. Not even a little fart. A shart haahahahaj jackass [sic],” he tweeted.

McGregor then deleted the tweet and sent out a slightly toned-down tweet.

“Not a bad fight. Congrats shartsy,” he said.

At his post-fight press conference Volkanovski hit back at McGregor’s Twitter activity.

“I heard about it. Sounds like he’s on the piss. Good on him, I will be too,” Volkanovski said in his press conference.

“Something about sharting, farting, it didn’t really make sense.

“It’s Conor doing Conor things, good on him. I’m not sure if he wants to come back down to 145 – well, obviously that’ll never happen.”

Volkanovski was told by media that the tweet from McGregor came immediately after commentators said the former rugby league player had defeated the two greatest featherweights in the game, Jose Aldo and Max Holloway, with no mention of McGregor.

“OK. That would’ve stung him a little bit,” Volkanovski said.

“Especially while he’s on the piss, you know.

“Anyway I’m gonna be on the piss, maybe you’ll see some weird f–king tweets from me too.”

Volkanovski’s great escape

In the past Volkanovski expressed his interest in fighting McGregor, and now the UFC champion has defended his belt there’s no shortage of challengers lining up.

“All you doubters, I’m going to prove you wrong time and time again,” he said after his arm was lifted in the octagon.

“Bring it. About f–king time [you put respect on my name].

“Keep doubting me. I love it. I’ll be underdog to the day I die.”
