Virat Kohli has now more hundreds than legendary Sachin Tendulkar after 500 matches

Indian cricket fans witnessed remarkable performances from their favorite players in test series against the West Indies. Among the noteworthy highlights, former skipper Virat Kohli demonstrated his batting class with his 29th Test century against the West Indies.

The 34-year-old Kohli equalled Sir Don Bradman’s record of 29 Test centuries with this century. The hundred also ended his five-year-long drought for an international Test century outside India. He scored his last ton in 2018. For Kohli, it was only his second ton in the Caribbean Islands with his first converted into a double hundred back in 2016 in North Sound.

With this feat, Kohli now holds the record of scoring a hundred in his 500th international match.

Kohli is only the 10th cricketer in history to make 500 international appearances. With this achievement, the star Indian batsman joins an elite group of four Indian cricketers — MS Dhoni, Rahul Dravid, and Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli has played 111 Test matches, 115 T20 Internationals, and 274 ODIs in his illustrious career.

With 664 appearances, Tendulkar tops the list, which is dominated by Asian batters. Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene is the only other player to appear in more than 600 international games.

Furthermore, Kohli’s tally of 76 centuries after 500 games surpasses the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 75 in as many games. While India may have missed out on a 2-0 series sweep, the fans were treated to an exhilarating display of cricket, leaving them eagerly awaiting the team’s next outing. The transition of Team India in Test cricket seems to be progressing smoothly, setting the stage for a promising future.
