When the girls’ holiday finally makes it out of the Whatsapp group and into the airport, someone needs to take charge.
You need the friend that sends you packing checklists, looks after the passports, is acutely aware of what time – and what gate – your flight is leaving from.
If your For You page is currently full of Airport Dad videos, you’re not alone – summer holidays are in full swing, and the hashtag currently has 264.2million views on TikTok.
But if you’re finding the content a little too relatable, you might need to ask yourself: are you the dad of your group?
The dad friend is the wholesome counterpart to the ubiquitous mum friend. We all have a mum friend: they look after us when we’re sick, we can always go to them for advice and they make the best food.
The mum of the group takes a nurturing and caring role in your friendship circle and is always there to pick you up when you’re down.
The dad friend is a little different: they don’t always text back, they fall asleep anywhere and everywhere (snoring loudly of course).
They also make pretty bad (but sometimes hilarious) jokes and dress in dad-core attire: cargo shorts, funky socks with sandals, practical trainers and ugly shirts. Maybe even throw in a cap for good measure.
But dad friends have loads of redeeming qualities: they’re always happy to help with handy and physical jobs, they’ll drive you anywhere, they stick up for you when you need it and they always share the best advice.
And, they’re organised, too (not just at airports) and good with directions – thank God!
Feel like you relate? Welcome to the party!
Friends show up in different ways, and dad friends are some of the most important.
